For missing a good chunk of the movies this year, I hit it pretty close! I hit 18 out of 23 categories, with Barbie over Poor Things in the visual categories being my biggest mistake. And Emma Stone vs. Lily Gladstone really was too close to call, but they called it. I guess I’m relieved that at least it’s a performance I liked? Really, really, really hoping that Lily doesn’t get the Yalitza Aparicio disrespect - a nomination, but no follow-up work after that. Hopefully a different ending.
Jimmy Kimmel was fine as a host. He’s always a little mean-spirited for me. The movies are long, okay! But he did fine. John Mulaney and Blunt/Gosling were stand out presenters. I’m Just Ken was a masterpiece. I screamed out, “THE OTHER KENS” when I saw Kingsley Ben-Adir’s joyful face. More dance numbers PLEASE. I liked the past nominees introducing the current nominees, but would’ve liked if there was more personal connection between them. Felt a little off-the-teleprompter. Messi 4ever!
Politically, I think it’s cowardly to misrepresent Jonathan Glazer’s speech and even more cowardly to not include that clip on the Academy’s Youtube page. Stupid.
The ceremony was a 7/10, which is probably the most I’ve thought of an awards show in a while.
My Oscar Prediction Wins from the last few years:
2020 - 16
2021 - 16
2022 - 19
2023 - 17
2024 - 18
Still hoping to break 20!!!!
Okay, good night everyone. I’ll talk more about movies someday soon, I promise.
