Babes, we’ve watching Succession and Broad City and directing plays, so here’s a quick recap of a quick week.
May 18th-20th - The Alice Gerstenberg Festival - I’m producing and directing for this free play festival at Berger Park. All shows at 7PM. All sold out, but you can try your luck at the door! Check out this interview I did about the project.
May 27th-28th, June 3rd-4th - Ghostlight Theatre’s Make/Believe Festival - I’m directing a very cute short play for this fun outdoor theater festival. Bring a picnic, bring the kids!
PLAYS I’VE SEEN:
A Drama In Rogers Park by the Young Krones - This is a great, experiential theatre project in an apartment! I love site specific theatre, and this group does a gangbusters job of transforming the atmosphere of the space. The play itself is so-so. But the experience of it is rad and worth the price of admission. Very sold out, but get on the waiting list!
WHAT I'VE BEEN READING
ALL THIS COULD BE DIFFERENT by Sarah Thankam Matthews - I really do want to finish this - definitely not a reflection of the book that I have such a hard time finishing it.
WHAT I'VE BEEN WATCHING
147) THE APARTMENT~ (1960) - Exquisite. Just a joy to watch. Jack Lemmon is so good at comedic melancholy. It's too hard to pick a favorite Billy Wilder movie, but oof this might be it. So well put together. No notes!

148) TO BE OR NOT TO BE~ (1942) - This was heavily on the rotation when I was a kid, but I haven't seen it in forever. Ohhhh damn it holds up. Truly LOLing. What a wonder that they made this incisive, timely, and legitimately funny satire in wartime. Carole Lombard's best, what a fabulous performance. I love when theatre is a tool of rebellion!

149) CINEMANIA (2002) - A wild documentary about compulsion and film obsessives. Very much a time capsule of pre-streaming, pre-9/11, pre-DVD boom, early internet New York City. Everybody here needs some tough therapy, including me because I recognized myself in so many of these people.
